The Mil-Grabber was chosen at first by the U.S.Special Forces in 2002 and a year later by the US Army as it's Collapsible Grappling Hook (CGH) of choice. It has been the only CGH issued to the US Military. The US Army Engineers added the Mil Grabber and TRGs Trippers (Disposable Grappling Hooks) to be part of their Urban Ops Kits as well. The military ordered another 3,000 of them in 2010.
Mil-Grabbers have been sold throughout the world and are used by many foreign militaries. Initially it was designed to be used for entry and egress in a MOUT environment, but the soldiers and civilians have found many more uses for it: trip wire, concertina wire, and minefield clearing and also used by cavers and climbers, Heli Loggers, Kayakers and even Jet Skiers for anchors.
The Grabber is also a movie star and has had roles in "The Pacifier" and "Get Smart" and also in Batman comics. This little 1.5 pound grapnel is rated at `1,650 pounds on a single tine.
