The Caligo™ is now on the scene. This everyday carry folding knife was given a black oxide finish on its modified drop point blade. Coupled with the black anodized aluminum handles, it becomes readily apparent that the english translation for the latin caligo is ‘darkness.’ Designer TJ Schwarz of Boise, Idaho channeled his expertise in mechanical engineering and employed his affinity for classic cars to produce this head-turning new release.
With a low-profile flipper opening and IKBS™ ball-bearing pivot mechanism, it’s practically poised to set a land speed record. Plus, the open action calls attention to the royal blue pivot ring—a touch that definitively elevates it to the top of its pack. Even though it looks like it might belong in an exhibit, it’s as powerful as it is attractive. The handle is highly ergonomic and the finish on both the blade and the handle are supremely corrosion resistant.
For a first release, TJ has set the bar astronomically high for himself. His extensive background in automotive design has translated flawlessly. This certainly isn’t the last the industry will be seeing of him. Now we know that when he says, “engineered for performance,” he means it.

How IKBS™ Works
Designer Flavio Ikoma and Rick Lala invented this system that sets lubed ball bearings into the folding knife pivot. The result is rapid blade deployment that is smooth and fast.
