Michigan Sheriff's Deputy Seriously Wounded; Suspect Fatally Shot

A Jackson County Sheriff's deputy responded to reports of a domestic pursuit was shot multiple times and a suspect was fatally wounded Wednesday night.

SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, Michigan -- A Jackson County Sheriff's deputy was shot multiple times and a suspect was fatally wounded Wednesday night.

Deputies were dispatched to the 1300 block of Westlane Drive for a domestic dispute around 9:05 p.m. when the 34-year-old suspect opened fire on them as try attempted to locate him, according to a news release.

A deputy was struck multiple times and was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Deputies returned fire, killing the suspect.

Deputies involved in the incident will be placed on administrative leave pending the completion of an investigation by the major crimes task force and review by the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney per department policy.

The investigation has been turned over to the Jackson County Major Crimes Task Force. The task force is made up of Detectives from the City of Jackson Police, Blackman Leoni Department of Public Safety, and the Michigan State Police and the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff.
