A man who had barricaded himself inside a Marietta apartment building was taken into custody early Friday morning after an hourslong SWAT standoff.
Marietta police announced the resolution at about 12:45 a.m., nearly three hours after the SWAT team was called to The Falls at Sope Creek apartments along Roswell Road. The man, identified as 35-year-old Durrell Harris, was not injured, according to police.
Harris was wanted on outstanding warrants out of Wisconsin, Marietta police told Channel 2 Action News from the scene. He barricaded himself inside an apartment around 3:30 p.m. when officers attempted to serve him with the warrants, the news station reported.
Police believed he was holding two people, a 19-year-old woman and a 7-year-old girl, hostage. The two were rescued when officers made their way into the main part of the apartment at about 8:30 p.m., police spokesman Officer Chuck McPhilamy told Channel 2.
It was not clear what charges Harris faced, but McPhilamy described them as “severe or serious.” He was taken to the Cobb jail and expected to be extradited to Wisconsin, the news station reported.
