A man accused of killing a Wyoming police officer was fatally shot Wednesday while he tried to flee following a standoff that lasted over 30 hours.
Sheridan Police Sgt. Nevada Krinkee was shot and killed Tuesday while trying to serve a trespass warning at a rental home after the suspect—identified as William Lowery, 46—had been evicted the previous day, the Cowboy State Daily reports. Following the shooting, Lowery barricaded himself inside another, and a standoff ensued.
Tactical units from Natrona and Campbell County were called in, and they worked with other agencies to try to get Lowery to surrender. Gas and a fire hose were used to try to get Lowery out of the home, but the suspect, who was armed with a rifle and a shotgun, continued to shoot at officers.
Finally, a construction worker's track hoe excavator was used to tear off the home's roof. According to police, Lowery shot at the excavator and fled into an alley.
A police Bearcat chased Lowery, and he was fatally shot.
The Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation is looking into the incident.
