Dash and body camera videos detail a deadly incident in September involving a gunman who shot at a school bus driven by his estranged wife before leading California police on a chase that ended in a fatal shootout.
According to Buena Park police, Cedric Baxter, 60, opened fire at a school bus in an attempt to kill his estranged wife, who was driving the bus, KABC-TV reports. None of the shots struck the driver or the single student onboard, and the bus sped away to escape Baxter.
As police reached the scene, Baxter refused to pull over and began pursuing the bus. He repeatedly sideswiped the bus in what appeared to be an attempt to run it off the road.
Police pursued Baxter to a school district parking lot, where a shootout erupted between officers and the suspect. Baxter was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene.
"This could've been much worse," Capt. Frank Nunes said at the time of the incident. "Fortunately, our officer was at the right place at the right time and intervened and possibly saved someone's life."
