A heavily armed Bergen County man who held police at bay for two days from inside his Lyndhurst home has been charged with attempted murder and a slew of weapons offenses, authorities said Friday.

Robert C. Condit, 51, barricaded himself with a flamethrower and firearms about 4 p.m. Tuesday in his home in the 400 block of Thomas Avenue, according to Lyndhurst police.

Local officers, along with members of the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team surrounded Condit’s home before he surrendered at 1:12 p.m. on Wednesday, according to police.

In addition to two counts of attempted murder, Condit is charged with unlawful use of a body vest, aggravated assault, obstruction and 11 weapons offenses, including having a large amount of ammunition, court records show.

Condit was also charged with violating a judge’s restraining order to seize his weapons. Police said in addition to firearms, Condit was armed with a flamethrower.

The suspect was held in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing, jail records show.
