Video footage from a SWAT robot captured a July home invasion that turned into a standoff, and Arizona police fatally shot a gunman to rescue a woman still inside.
The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team, which is investigating the case, released the footage from the standoff and shooting involving Tucson police on Tuesday, the Arizona Republic. The footage was recorded July 13.
The incident began when police learned that an armed man—identified as Daniel Sheehan—had broken into a home with a person still inside. A day earlier, a woman called 9-1-1 and said her security system had spotted Sheehan inside her home while she was at work.
A SWAT team began negotiating with Sheehan by phone, and a robot was deployed to keep track of the suspect with a video camera. In the footage, Sheehan seems agitated and is seen pacing in and out of the home, carrying a handgun.
"I'm not doing that bro," Sheehan told a negotiator. "Dude, I've been doing something for you. I've been doing something for you bro. I'm talking to you."
Finally, Sheehan is seen in a window, pointing his gun at officers and threatening to start shooting. An officer opened fire with a rifle, fatally shooting Sheehan.
The victim inside the home suffered minor injuries. Police would not say if she had been a hostage.
