A three-hour standoff with Florida police last week led to the arrest of a man accused of possessing child pornography.
The incident happened Thursday when a Port St. Lucie police SWAT unit arrived at the home of Joshua Valdez to execute a search warrant, WBPF-TV reports.
"Upon sight of us, the suspect decided to barricade himself inside the home," said Assistant Police Chief Leo Niemczyk.
Negotiators were called in, and a three-hour standoff ensued. Body camera footage captured the barricade situation when Valdez refused to surrender.
Valdez's mother and sister, who had escaped the home, tried to help police end the standoff. Two robots were used to try to locate Valdez inside the house, and tear gas also was deployed.
Finally, the SWAT unit breached the home.
"The SWAT team made entry into the home and located him in the front bedroom, hiding under a mattress," Niemczyk said. "He was taken into custody without incident. I think he had about enough."
Valdes was charged with 17 counts of child pornography, and bond was set at over $300,000.
