A federal immigration agent suffered an unintentional gunshot wound at a law enforcement training facility in the Miramar area Monday afternoon, police said.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent unintentionally shot himself or herself — the officer's gender was unknown — in the leg about 3:25 p.m. at the Sheriff's Department-owned training facility known as A-Range or Duffy's Town, on the eastern end of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, authorities said.
The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition, San Diego police said.
"Late this afternoon, an ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officer was injured due to an accidental discharge of a firearm at a federal firearms range," Marcus Johnson, a San Diego-area ICE spokesperson, wrote in an emailed statement. "The incident is currently being investigated and no additional information can be provided at this time."
The training center, named after the late Sheriff John Duffy, who served from 1971 to 1991, includes shooting ranges and classrooms. It is available to state and federal law enforcement agencies.
No further information was immediately available.
