San Diego Police Officer Stabbed in Chest; Attacker Fatally Shot

San Diego police and sheriff's deputies were trying to serve an eviction notice to a woman at an apartment building in the city's Little Italy neighborhood when she attacked an officer with a chef's knife.

A woman was shot and killed by police and sheriff's deputies after she allegedly stabbed an officer in the chest Thursday.

The incident happened just after 12:30 p.m. at an apartment building in the city's Little Italy neighborhood, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. San Diego County sheriff's deputies had gone to the complex to reportedly serve an eviction notice to a 47-year-old woman living there.

When authorities arrived, a woman weilding a chef's knife opened the door and refused to cooperate before shutting the door. Two San Diego police officers were called in as backup, and deputies worked for nearly an hour to convince the woman to open the door.

Finally, the deputies and police officers entered the apartment, and the woman stabbed one of the officers in the chest with the chef's knife. That's when authorities shot the woman, who died at the scene.

The officer, a K-9 handler with the department, was taken to the hospital for his injuries. He was later released.

“That is great news that our officer is doing very, very well,” said Police Chie David Nisleit.
