An Iowa police chief was airlifted after he was shot and wounded early Tuesday.

Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn was shot in the line of duty during a call, The Perry News reports. Although no details have been released about what led up to the shooting, officers fired multiple TASERs to subdue the suspect.

Vaughn was taken to the hospital by air ambulance. Details concerning his condition were not released.

The suspect in the shooting has been detained by police. The Dallas County Sheriff's Office and Iowa State Patrol responded to the shooting and were investigating.
