A veteran Oakdale police sergeant was conducting traffic control at the scene of an alleged DUI crash when he was struck by another vehicle, breaking his leg.

An Oakdale police sergeant is being treated at a local hospital after being hit by a vehicle while at the scene of an alleged DUI crash Wednesday night.

The sergeant, a 22-year veteran of the Oakdale Police Department, suffered a broken leg and will undergo surgery Thursday, according to a press release.

The initial alleged DUI collision occurred just after 8 p.m. in the 1300 block of West F Street and involved minor injuries.

About 12 minutes after that crash, the sergeant was conducting traffic control when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle, according to the release.

The sergeant was listed in stable condition Thursday and is expected to make a full recovery, though he will be off work for some time, said Chief Jerry Ramar.

He declined to release the name of the sergeant or the driver who hit him.

The driver was not cited and drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be a factor, according to the press release.
