La. Police Officer Critically Injured after Being Dragged 100 Feet

While trying to pull over an alleged reckless driver, a Lafayette police officer was run down and dragged, suffering severe injuries that sent him to the hospital in stable condition.

A Louisiana police officer was critically injured after being dragged 100 feet while trying to pull over a reckless driver early Sunday.

The incident happened at about 1: 30 a.m. as a Lafayette police tried to stop a man who was allegedly driving recklessly downtown, The Associated Press reports. The driver fled, and police set up a roadblock to stop him.

When the driver backed up, he ran down an officer and dragged him 100 feet. Another officer opened fire at the vehicle, but no one was struck. The driver eventually was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder and other charges.

The officer was taken to the hospital in stable condition with severe injuries.
