NYPD Officer Slashed across Nose Trying to Apprehend Man

An NYPD officer likely needs stitches after she was cut on the nose by an apparently emotionally disturbed man who police were trying to take into custody in the Bronx.

A Bronx cop was slashed in the nose as he tried to take an apparently emotionally disturbed man into custody early Thursday, police said.

The officer’s partner Tased the unhinged man during the attack at the corner of West Fordham Road and Grand Ave. in Fordham Heights about 7:20 a.m., cops said.

Officers were called to Andrews Ave. on a report of a man with a knife outside a grocery, but when they got there, the man was gone.

The 52nd Precinct cops found the man about a block away and asked him to raise his hands when the man lunged with his blade, catching the officer’s nose, according to the NYPD.

His partner then used his Taser to incapacitate the attacker, police said.

The cop was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where it’s believed the cop may need stitches to close the wound.

No other injuries were reported. A knife was recovered from the scene, police said.

The man taken into custody was also being evaluated by the BronxCare Health System. Charges are pending.
