A Kentucky police officer helping with traffic control was shot in the face by a suspect who had fatally shot a construction worker early Friday.
The shooting happened shortly after 2:30 a.m. along Interstate 264 in Louisville, the Louisville Courier-Journal reports. A man walked on to the highway and, without an apparent motive, shot and killed a worker doing construction work on the roadway.
After that shooting, the man then went up to a Louisville Metro Police officer who was helping with construction traffic control and opened fire. The officer was wounded in the face and upper cheek area, and a bullet was lodged in the back of his neck, Councilman Anthony Piagentini wrote in a social media post.
"Seems he will survive but please pray for his speedy recovery and for his family," Piagentini stated.
The construction worker was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer and suspect were taken to the hospital in stable condition, and both are expected to recover.
The shooting is under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
