Knife Attack Seriously Injures 2 N.Y. Police Officers

Two Suffolk County police officers were responding to a dispute between two apartment residents on Long Island when one of the men stabbed the officers before he was shot and killed.

A man armed with a knife was fatally shot by New York police after stabbing and seriously injuring two officers Wednesday.

The incident happened at about 5 p.m. when Suffolk County police were called to an argument between two apartment residents in Medford on Long Island, the New York Post reports. One of the residents was brandishing a knife, and when officers arrived, he attacked them with the bladed weapon.

One of the officers drew a weapon during the assault and opened fire, shooting and killing the knife-wielding suspect.

Both officers in the knife attack suffered serious injuries. The two were rushed to the hospital, and one of them was airlifted because of the severity of the injuries.

Suffolk County police's homicide squad is investigating the incident.
