One of the biggest challenges any law enforcement professional faces is self-improvement while working rotating shifts. Between sleeping during different parts of the day, spending time with family, and handling personal duties/chores, making time for classes on any type of schedule is difficult at best. In answer to this challenge, Officer Media Group has launched the Officer Virtual Academy (OVA).
Contextual Decision Making, the newest course, discusses the differences between conscious and subconscious decision-making, as well as the pros and cons of each. That information is then applied to the human decision-making cycle, Boyd’s Cycle or “OODA Loops,” as applicable to conflict and officer survival situations. Finally, the course talks about how training should be structured to most efficiently empower subconscious decision-making, increasing the officer’s chances of victory in conflict situations.
The course is instructed by Officer Media Group's editorial director, retired Lt. Frank Borelli. He has 45 years of operational experience and over 30 years of instructional experience. Borelli has taught programs involving firearms, defensive tactics, officer survival, active shooter response and more to officers from all levels of government to include city, county, state, federal and military.
