APCO Announces 'Nexus', New Event to DC Metro Area for Spring 2020
Alexandria, VA – On May 21, the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International announced the launch of Nexus - The 9-1-1 Experience Reimagined, APCO’s new event taking place in the spring of 2020 in the DC metro area. The announcement was made during the first day of APCO’s 8th annual Public Safety Broadband Summit which will be replaced by Nexus.
“APCO initially launched the Public Safety Broadband Summit back on May 16, 2011,” said Derek K. Poarch, APCO Executive Director and CEO. “Here we are eight years later. Consider how much has changed – we went from advocating for a public safety broadband network for first responders, to seeing legislation enacted, and today to a new FirstNet public safety broadband network being implemented across the country. Yet, when it comes to 9-1-1, we still rely upon decades-old technology that is being far surpassed by the communications technology available to field responders, as well as the general public.”
Nexus will be an interactive experience involving diverse scenarios with first-hand exposure to what the emergency communications center of the future will look like – an end-to-end glimpse of the flow of a 9-1-1 request for emergency assistance. Nexus will provide informative and compelling content to a wide variety of stakeholders, including 9-1-1 professionals, first responders, information technologists, geographic information systems specialists, local, state and federal government officials, and technology experts.
