Indiana K-9 Killed, Deputy Wounded in Standoff

A standoff ended with an Indiana State Police K-9 dead and a deputy shot in the leg on Monday.

A standoff in Sellersburg ended with an Indiana State Police K-9 dead and a deputy shot in the leg on Monday.

Sellersburg police were called to a domestic situation around 11:30 a.m. and an officer who responded had a gun pointed at him, according to WANE-TV.

The officer took cover and the suspect fled, triggering a pursuit.

Officials said that Joshua L. Priddy eventually entered an unoccupied home and police called for assistance from the Indiana State Police.

Trooper Nathan Abbott and his K-9 partner, Kilo, responded to the scene.

Kilo entered the residence with sever officers before shots went off inside the residence.

Officers retreated from the home, but Kilo did not.

Other agencies were called to the scene, including State Police SWAT and Clark County Sheriff's Office SWAT.

A robot equipped with a camera was sent in, but the suspect fired several rounds at it, disabling the camera.

Priddy then fired outside the home in the direction of police, hitting a Clark County deputy, who was flown to University Hospital in Louisville with non-life threatening injuries.

Tear gas was used by SWAT and Priddy surrendered to police around 9:25 p.m.

Priddy is being held on felony charges of attempted murder of a police officer, causing the death of a law enforcement animal, burglary, residential entry, pointing a firearm, and criminal recklessness with a firearm.
