Mesa officers responded shortly after 7 p.m. to a home southwest of Broadway Road and Stapley Drive for a reported a burglary in progress. A neighbor told police that he confronted Bogle, who pointed a gun at him.

The suspect came out of the home several times and ignored officers' commands. Bean bag rounds were fired at Bogle before they ultimately sent Jake after him.

The dog bit Bogle, but he dragged Jake into the home where officers believe he stabbed him multiple times before releasing him out the front door. The dog's handler picked him up and drove him to the veterinarian.
