FORT PIERCE, Fla. --

A St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office deputy tackled a man as he tried to rob a bank Thursday, hours after he robbed another bank, Sheriff Ken Mascara said.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office identified Eric Cogan as the man who robbed the Chase branch near Prima Vista Boulevard and U.S. Highway 1 shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday.

Hours later, Cogan tried to rob a nearby TD Bank, but a deputy who was working security detail at the time tackled Cogan as he ran out, Mascara said.

Cogan was arrested on two felony robbery charges.

Mascara said Cogan told deputies he saw the deputy's cruiser in the parking lot, but he didn't care because he just wanted to rob the bank so he could get some quick cash.
