Gov. Maura Healey on Monday said she will ask incoming Massachusetts State Police Col. Geoffrey Noble to conduct a review of all of the agency’s training programs, in the wake of the death of a trooper during a training exercise.
Noble, who was appointed colonel earlier this month, is expected to take over the agency in October.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Healey said her goal was to “make sure that we have in place the very best in terms of training for the sake of all recruits.”

Attorney General Andrea J. Campbell’s office on Monday announced the appointment of Boston-based lawyer David Meier to oversee an investigation into Delgado-Garcia’s death.
Late Sunday night, interim Col. John Mawn Jr. announced the suspension of full-contact boxing training activities and a comprehensive review of the Academy’s defensive tactics program.
That review, which remains ongoing, will “ensure that the program delivers relevant skills safely and effectively to those preparing to become Troopers.”
The review is addressing “safety protocols, training methods and curriculum, alignment with law enforcement objectives, medical and health considerations, alternative approaches, and soliciting feedback from recruits and instructors and information from peer organizations and subject matter experts,” according to the statement.
