Md. State Troopers Rescue Drivers after Fiery Car Crash

Nov. 5, 2021
Two Maryland State Police troopers pulled two drivers from burning vehicles after they collided with each other at an intersection in Fallston.

A Volkswagen struck a Jeep Cherokee at the intersection of Belair and Reckord roads in Fallston in a fiery collision around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday, according to a news release from Maryland State Police.

Minutes before the crash, Trooper First Class Jack Hadley and Trooper First Class Stanley Gustaitis observed the gray Volkswagen traveling at high speed on the 2800 block of Belair Road.

The two troopers then heard a loud crash and saw smoke. They discovered the Volkswagen had hit the Jeep after the Jeep had pulled out from Reckord Road, causing it to crash into a utility pole and catch fire.

When the troopers arrived, they removed the drivers of both burning vehicles.

The driver of the Volkswagen was transported by helicopter to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore. The driver of the Jeep was taken by ambulance to Johns Hopkins Bayview for assessment and treatment of their injuries.

As for Wednesday morning, no fatalities had been reported, according to Maryland State Police. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
