Texas Police Officers Praised for Saving Woman after Train Severs Foot

Oct. 18, 2022
A woman whose foot was cut off by a train provided visual landmarks near her location until two Laredo police officers could find her and start life-saving measures.

Two Laredo police officers are being lauded for their intervention in a critical incident.

The case unfolded at about 1:47 a.m. Oct. 14, when Laredo police communications received a call from a woman who mentioned that her foot had been severed by the train while attempting to get on.

She did not provide an exact location to the call taker. However, communications relayed information to the officers on a possible location by Carriers Drive and Frontage Road.

Within minutes, Field Training Officer Eduardo Benavides and Officer Marcial Ramirez Jr. arrived in the area and began searching for the woman.

She provided visual landmarks near her location until officers could locate her. Officers immediately used life-saving techniques by applying a tourniquet while medical personnel arrived.

"As a result of their efforts and quick actions, the victim received medical attention and was transported to a local hospital," LPD said in a statement.
