A 11-year-old boy was rescued Monday afternoon after he fell through the ice of a Monmouth County lake.
West Long Branch Patrolman Dave Brosonski was called to Franklin Lake in the borough at 2:41 p.m. and found the child stranded in the middle of the lake, according to a release from the department.
Brosonski, who is highly trained in water rescue, entered the frigid water and was able to get the boy out and to the shore, police said.
Temperatures in the area hovered around 50 degrees on Monday afternoon in the borough.
The department credited Brosonski’s swift actions, and also thanked the residents who quickly alerted police when they saw the boy fall into the ice.
