Dashboard camera footage captured a Powder Springs police officer performing CPR for nearly 10 minutes on a runner who collapsed on a trail while running a marathon.

A Georgia police officer is credited with helping save the life of a runner who collapsed on a running trail during a marathon late last month.

The Powder Springs Police Department released dashboard camera footage of the incident, which happened Oct. 29, WAGA-TV reports. A runner lost consciousness during a marathon on the Silver Comet Trail.

According to police, the man had a clogged artery, and he lost consciousness as his heart stopped. When police quickly reached the scene, rookie Officer Carson Yates and his sergeant went to action to try to save the runner.

Yates began performing CPR on the man, and he kept at it for nearly 10 minutes. His efforts led to the runner regaining consciousness, and it allowed medics to arrive at the location.

"Of course, I’m excited that I helped save his life, but it’s part of the job," Yates told WAGA.

Yates, who is in his first year with the department, was recognized by Chief Lane Cadwell at a city council meeting Monday.
