"A picture is worth a thousand words.” It’s a quote nearly everyone has heard but is rarely applied with any type of literacy to training for law enforcement. The quote has been cited with regard to using video captured by body-worn and dashboard mounted cameras. It’s also been cited with regard to the fact that there’s simply no way for a video camera to “see” what the officer does, and even if it can capture the same images, there’s no way to understand the officer’s perceptions without having experienced his background and experiencing the full input of his senses in the specified moment. Interestingly, the same thing can be applied in reverse to the training we make available to law enforcement professionals.
