Aug. 25, 2022
Alachua County sheriff's deputies performed a PIT maneuver to end a chase with an accused vehicle thief who leapt from the cab of a stolen while the vehicle was still moving.

A Florida man faces over a dozen charges after he led deputies on a wrong-way chase in a stolen box truck Tuesday.

Alachua County sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a vehicle stolen in Tampa that was traveling in the wrong direction along busy roadways, WESH-TV reports. Dashboard camera footage captured the truck weaving in and out of traffic along Interstate 75 and just missing cars—including a school bus in one instance.

The driver eventually got off the interstate, and deputies tried mutliple PIT maneuvers to end the chase. Finally, deputies were able to disable the truck, and before the truck came to a stop, the suspect jumped from the cab and fled on foot. He then was apprehended by deputies.

No injuries were reported during the chase. At least one police cruiser was heavily damaged in the incident, and multiple civilian vehicles were struck during the pursuit.

The suspect faces at least 16 charges stemming from the incident, including several felonies.
