Four members of the South Brunswick Police Department were able to stop a vehicle that was rolling down a local highway last weekend while its driver was intoxicated and unconscious at the wheel, according to a statement from the department posted on social media.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. on Nov. 19 on Route 522 when the officers spotted the car and noticed something was wrong, police said.

The car was moving on its own for about a half a mile before South Brunswick Police Officers Justin Samuels, Gagan Chopra, Christine Harris and Sgt. William Merkler were able to block it in, smashed its side window, and get the driver out, the department said.

Its driver, a 28-year Scranton, Pennsylvania resident, was found to be intoxicated and was arrested, authorities said, though the exact charges were not immediately clear.

A video that shows about a half a minute of the incident was posted on the department’s Twitter page and can be seen above.
