Video: Va. Police Officer Nearly Killed by Out-of-Control Car During Stop

During a traffic stop, a Fairfax County police officer was struck by a 17-year-old driver lost control of a car and careened across multiple lanes into the pulled over vehicle.

A Virginia police escaped serious injury after an out-of-control car crashed into another vehicle during a traffic stop Monday.

The incident happened just after 11:30 a.m. as a Fairfax County police officer was conducting a routine traffic stop, the department stated in a social media post. During the stop, a 17-year-old driver traveling in the opposite direction loses control of the car and careens across multiple lanes into the pulled over vehicle.

"The officer was struck and nearly killed," the department stated.

The officer and the driver in the stopped vehicle suffered minor injuries, WJZ-TV reports. The 17-year-old driver faces reckless driving charges.

"We are relieved this crash did not result in a tragedy," the department stated. "This is an important reminder that life can change in an instant."
