'Fast & Furious' Audition?: Driver Does Doughnuts to Escape Tenn. Police

Oct. 30, 2024
A 22-year-old driver surrendered to Nashville police after he allegedly performed doughnuts and crashed into a cruiser to elude officers trying to pull him over on an interstate.

A reckless driver did his best impression of a scene from "The Fast and the Furious" when he allegedly performed doughnuts and slammed into a Tennessee police cruiser to escape a traffic stop.

The incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. when a Nashville police officer tried to pull over a Dodge Charger that was recklessly speeding along Interstate 24 West, WSMV-TV reports. But instead of stopping, the driver—later identified as Carlos Esquivel, 22—began to perform doughnuts as he fled, and a cruiser's dashboard camera captured the pursuit.

As he wildly drove in circles, the driver struck a cruiser before escaping via an interstate entrance ramp. The officer was rushed to the hospital and later released.

Although the driver eluded officers, police were able to identify the driver thanks to running the Charger's license plate.

Esquivel eventually surrendered to police Tuesday afternoon. He was charged with aggravated assault on an officer, felony evading arrest and other counts.
