KALKASKA COUNTY, MI—A police officer was nearly crushed between his vehicle and a semi-truck during a crash in Kalkaska County.
According to the Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at the intersection of U.S. 131, M-72 and County Road 612 in Kalkaska at 8:35a.m. on Wednesday.
An officer had stopped to assist a semi-truck having mechanical difficulties when the driver of a Niassan SUV, a 37-year-old female from Kalkaska, struck the parked, police vehicle.
The impact forced it into the semi-truck. The police officer, who was between the semi-truck and patrol vehicle, was struck by his patrol vehicle and thrown into the intersection. The semi-truck passenger was struck by debris from the collision and knocked down.
All three people involved were taken to Kalkaska Memorial Health Center with injuries. They were treated and released. Speed was a factor in the collision, deputies said.
“The Kalkaska Sheriff Office would like to remind all drivers to slow down on icy roads, especially when you see emergency vehicles with flashing lights,” a statement said.
Kalkaska EMS and the Kalkaska Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
