Vehicle for Bloomington, MN

Aug. 20, 2007
A customized mobile command unit built by LDV Inc. has been delivered to the Bloomington (Minnesota) Police Department to replace their out-dated vehicle. Funded 100 percent by a grant from the office of Homeland Security, the command center is powered by a Freightliner MT-55 with a Cummins ISB-02 260-hp turbo-charged diesel engine, an Allison 2500 EVS automatic transmission and has a 30,000-pound GVWR. The 30-foot load space body is constructed of 1/8-inch aluminum and a NFPA welded tread-plate roof. The command post has a 7 1/2-foot by 6 1/2-foot observation deck that includes 42-inch-high fold-down OSHA-compliant aluminum perimeter railing. A camera system that is mounted on a 42-foot pneumatic mast has a 30-times range optical zoom, that can be transmitted to other locations.
