Pro-gard Products, LLC, a leading manufacturer and supplier of law enforcement vehicle equipment, now offers an Outboard Seat Belt option for their Prisoner Transport Seats to make it easier on officers when securing prisoners for transport.
Outboard Seat Belts eliminate the need for the officer to lean across the prisoner to restrain them into the vehicle. Leaning across the prisoner opens the officer up to unpleasant and unsafe situations. Unfortunately, spitting and biting are common occurrences that officers face when belting in prisoners. An even more dire situation is if the prisoner is able to reach for dangerous equipment on the duty belt.
Pro-gard’s Outboard Seat Belts feature a center mount base point for the belts that sits in the center of the Prisoner Transport Seat. Two female buckles are located on the exterior side of the prisoner compartment eliminating the need for the officer to reach across the prisoner while restraining. The stored position is located high on the outside of the Prisoner Transport Partition while the seat is unoccupied. This keeps the belt out of the way for loading/unloading prisoners. The secured position attaches to the existing OEM (male) anchor point, at lap level for securing the prisoner for transport.
“What is unique about our Outboard Seat Belts is the bright “Pro-gard Blue” color,” said Mike Navarro, President of Pro-gard. “We wanted to make sure that our Outboard Seat Belts were highly visible inside the vehicle’s interior. The products of our Prisoner Transport System are designed to work together seamlessly around the officer’s needs. One of those features is a consistent Charcoal Grey color that matches between our Partitions, Seats, and Floor Pans. By making the belt straps a bright contrasting color, officers can more easily load the prisoner.”
The belt straps have a satin finish which makes them easy to adjust around the prisoner. Retrofit kits are available to install with existing Pro-gard Prisoner Transport Seats. The Outboard Seat Belts cannot be used with OEM Seats or competitive products.
Currently the belts are available for the Ford PI Utility and Sedan, Dodge Charger, and 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe.
