A DeWitt police officer was responding to a call when he went off the road to avoid hitting another vehicle and struck a pole, the porch of one house and the side and foundation of another.

DEWITT, NY— A police officer lost control of a patrol vehicle and hit a house, pole and porch in East Syracuse, police said.

Officer Damian Parker was heading to a domestic call where another officer was calling for help at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Lt. Jerry Pace, a spokesperson for the DeWitt police department, said this week.

Parker lost control of the vehicle, which had its lights and sirens on, near Kinne and Frederick streets, Pace said.

The vehicle hit a utility pole then the porch of one home and the side and foundation of another home, he said.

Parker was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and later released, he said. No one else was injured, he said.

The patrol vehicle was heavily damaged, he said.

How fast the vehicle was going has yet to be determined, he said.

It appears the officer went off the road to avoid hitting another vehicle, he said. The other vehicle did not stop and police were unable to issue a ticket, he said.
