When two Michigan State Police troopers were investigating an interstate traffic incident in Detroit, an accused impaired driver in a Ford F-150 failed to move over and slammed into the troopers' patrol car.

Two Michigan State Police troopers were injured when a vehicle crashed into their patrol car early Sunday.

At about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, troopers from the Metro South Post were investigating a traffic crash when the driver of a Ford F-150, traveling westbound on Interstate 96 near Joy Road, failed to move over and struck their patrol car, according to a tweet from Michigan State Police Second District.

The troopers were taken to a local hospital, police said. The car sustained significant damage.

The driver of the pickup, a 21-year-old from Novi, was determined to be impaired and was arrested and lodged pending prosecutor review, police said.

“Once again we see someone who decided to get behind the wheel while impaired," said 1st Lt. Mike Shaw in the post. “This crash could have been a lot worse. We are reminding drivers to not get behind the wheel while impaired. There are too many other options available."
