GREENWICH, CT — A town police vehicle was destroyed during a brush fire Wednesday, the department said.

A Greenwich police officer was responding to a medical call and was away from their vehicle when a brush fire started next to it and spread to the vehicle, the Police Department said in a Facebook post.

A photo the department shared of the vehicle showed significant damage. Police said it was destroyed, but nobody was hurt.

Lt. Patrick Smyth said in an email that the fire took place on Thornhill Road in the Riverside area of town at about 10 a.m.

"We want to remind all residents to exercise extreme caution when traveling and parking your vehicles during these conditions, as we are currently under a Red Flag Warning," police said in the Facebook post. "Your safety is our priority."
