An Arkansas State Police trooper underwent surgery after he was seriously injured in a severe weather-related crash Sunday.

The incident happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. while Trooper Christian Ramirez was responding to a three-vehicle crash during a heavy rainstorm near Hot Spring Village in Garland County, KATV-TV reports. No details were released concerning how the crash involving Ramirez happened, but the severe weather conditions were cited as a factor.

It's unclear what the nature and severity of Ramirez's injuries were. He is in stable condition following surgery.

"Please keep Trooper Ramirez and his family in your prayers as he begins the recovery process," Col. Mike Hagar, the agency's director, said in a statement, according to the Hot Springs Sentinel-Record.
