DEARBORN, Mich., Dec, 17, 2024 – Ford, home of America’s best-selling police vehicle lineup1, is announcing order banks are now open for the all-new 2025 Ford Expedition® SSV. It is designed to support law enforcement, fire departments, and other government agencies with rugged versatility, cutting-edge technology, and robust capability to tow, carry personnel, and haul their gear, helping deliver public service 24/7.
“Duty is at the heart of everything our valued law enforcement customers do, and that’s a standard Expedition SSV is built to meet,” said Lindsey Bertino, police brand marketing manager.
“We’re very proud to add another all-new vehicle to our police lineup with incredible technology like the panoramic display that departments across the country are looking for.”
Versatility in the Line of Duty
Now in its second generation, Expedition SSV is available as a two-row configuration with cloth seating surfaces, vinyl floors, and an array of power points for all areas of the vehicle, Expedition Max SSV offers three rows of seating with third Row 60/40 PowerFold® with Power Recline to help accommodate personnel and equipment as required.
The new Ford Split Gate makes the 2025 Expedition® SUV the only vehicle in its class that offers a Split Gate feature/tailgate2. Officers can lift three-quarters of the liftgate for quick access or fold down the lower tailgate to use as a stable platform capable of supporting up to 500 pounds, ideal for organizing gear at a moment’s notice.
Connectivity and situational awareness are key to any department and a standard 24-inch panoramic display replaces the traditional gauge cluster, placing vital information at eye level.
Expedition SSV also includes Dark Car3 which shuts off all interior lighting to help occupants remain discrete during stakeouts and Police Accessory Independent Timed-Release Output (PAITRO) that helps prevent unauthorized access to cargo.
The Expedition SSV powertrain is standard with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 engine which develops 400 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque4 backed by a 4x4 driveline with a new two-speed transfer case with Touch on Demand and 4-Auto. Expedition SSV has a 9,600-pound maximum towing capacity5 with a load-leveling bar and includes Pro Trailer Hitch Assist™ and Pro Trailer Backup Assist™, BLIS® with Cross-Traffic Alert, and BLIS® with Trailer Coverage to help with hitching, backing, and situational awareness for marine or mounted units and other municipal uses6.
75 Years of Service
The 2025 Expedition joins a broad lineup of pursuit rated and special service vehicles stretching all the way back to 1950, beginning with the Police Package which applied to the Ford Custom, which then gained the iconic flathead V8 in 1951.
An expansive portfolio of products have been offered over the decades including the Bronco Special Purpose, several generations of the legendary Crown Victoria, the Mustang Patrol, and Police Interceptor Sedan, and the Police Interceptor® Utility Hybrid AWD which is the only pursuit-rated hybrid police utility vehicle.
Ford was also instrumental in advancing safety standards for police vehicles in the early 2000s, implementing extreme 75 mph rear crash crumple zones and in developing ballistic panels to line doors.
Police have relied on Ford for its police vehicles for years to perform front line duties effectively.
- The new 2025 Ford Police Interceptor® Utility recently went on sale with its unique and very in- demand hybrid drivetrain.
- Ford F-150® Police Responder®, the first pursuit-rated pickup, offers a unique combination of capability and utility.
- In 2023 the F-150® Lightning® Pro SSV was the first purpose-built law-enforcement electric pickup.

“We are committed to designing products that are durable, safe, purpose-built for law enforcement, upfit friendly, and deliver the performance our customers expect from Built Ford Tough vehicles, that’s what we call our police brand DNA.,” said Bertino.
“For 75 years we’ve been working with law enforcement, we are grateful to all of the agencies, officers and Ford employees that have helped design and build America’s best-selling lineup of police vehicles.”
