Watch San Francisco Police Try to Pull over Driverless Car

A video recently posted online captured an unusual moment with San Francisco police as officers attempted to stop a Cruise autonomous vehicle with a mind of its own.

A driverless car created an awkward moment for San Francisco police as officers' attempt to pull over the vehicle was caught on video.

The footage, which was posted April 1 by a bystander, shows a traffic stop involving San Francisco police and a Cruise car, KNTV-TV reports. Cruise is a GM subsidiary that has been offering free nighttime rides with its driverless vehicles in the city this year.

In the video, the vehicle initially stops on the side of the road for police. However, as officers approached the car, it began driving again to cross an intersection in order to pull over again on the side of the road.

Despite the abrupt stop and start for officers, the driverless vehicle's actions weren't considered out of the ordinary, according to the company.

"Our (autonomous vehicle) yielded to the police vehicle, then pulled over to the nearest safe location, as intended. An officer contacted Cruise personnel and no citation was issued," Cruise stated on its Twitter account.
