Vt. State Trooper Critically Injured in Crash with Fire Truck

A Vermont State Police trooper was responding to a box truck that had slid off the interstate in Bethel when his cruiser crashed into a fire truck already at the scene.

A Vermont State Police trooper was critically injured when his cruiser crashed into a fire apparatus Friday.

The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. while firefighters were directing traffic along Interstate 89 in Bethel after involving a box truck that had slid off the road, WPTZ-TV reports. A trooper responding to that incident then slammed into a fire truck at the scene.

The trooper was airlifted to the hospital, and he was in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.

A stretch of I-89 was closed following the crash. It was reopened shortly after 1:30 p.m.
