Watch Phoenix Police Officer Pull Over Driverless Car Going Wrong Way

July 5, 2024
A Phoenix police officer had to stop a Waymo driverless vehicle when "inconsistent construction signage" caused the car to drive into oncoming traffic and run through a red light.

A Phoenix police officer encountered that kind of traffic stop last month that's becoming more common for law enforcement when he had to pull over a driverless car that drove into oncoming traffic.

The stop happened shortly after 11 a.m. June 19 when a Waymo car drove the wrong way and ran a red light, the Arizona Republic reports. The company told the news outlet that "inconsistent construction signage" caused the driverless vehicle to head into oncoming traffic.

The officer pulled up behind the car when it was blocked from returning to the correct traffic lane. The driverless vehicle then drove into a parking lot and stopped for the officer.
