An annual charity football game pitting NYPD officers against FDNY firefighters erupted in a bloody brawl at MCU Park on Coney Island Sunday.
The NYPD's Finest had a comfortable lead of 29-13 over the FDNY's Bravest in the final minutes of the 44th annual Fun City Bowl when an officer put a hard tackle on a firefighter, sparking the melee, according to The New York Post.
"They hit our quarterback out of bounds, and that’s how things started," FDNY Coach Steve Orr told the newspaper. "There were a lot of hotheads there."
The two teams can be seen on video fighting for several minutes before being separated.
Officials ultimately let the clock run out without resuming the game.
NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton was at the game, but reportedly left before the fighting broke out.
