A veteran Murfreesboro, Tenneessee battling cancer was recently notified that he could soon be terminated.

The 30-year veteran said that he recieved a call last week from a deputy police chief warning him that he could be fired.

Robinson has spent the last several months in and out of the hospital and was put on disability while he is unable to work. "I said, are you serious? Why?," he told the news station. "They helped me get my disability. Why are they wanting to terminate me after 30 years?"

Robinson is on a two-year disability plan with the City of Murfreesboro and said that he has been eager to get back to work once he's cleared.

"They don't care," he said. "They don't care about their employees."

City Manager Rob Lyons said that the city is hoping for the best, and is trying to work with Robinson.

"He has not been able to perform his duties for a period of time and the city has granted several extensions of leave to hopefully give him sometime where he could return to work," he said. "We've certainly considered other assignments to see if we could work through that."

The city is now waiting on a notice from the officer's doctor to see if and when he can return to work.

Robinson said that he wants more time to heal and come back to the job he loves.

"I just want them to have some sympathy and be fair about it," he said. "I've given them 30 years. Surely they can give me a little more time."
