Staffing shortages are forcing the Nevada State Police to curtail its 24-hour coverage of the state's most populous county that includes Reno.
The agency confirmed the changes in coverage to Washoe County brought on by a lack of officers, The Associated Press reports. A statement from the department said it “will provide a greater level of service to the public and allied agencies during hours of highest demand.”
Although the Nevada State Police didn't provide details about the change in service, the union representing troopers said the agency's rank and file has already been notified of specific changes. Starting in June or July, troopers will not be assigned to Washoe County between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.
The Reno Police Department declined to comment about whether the agency will respond to calls on county roadways normally patrolled by Nevada State Police.
