WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 6, 2024) - The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) today announced Officer Adam Semchee of the Akron (OH) Police Department as their Officer of the Month for March 2024. Officer Semchee was selected for his swift actions in locating and rescuing a two-year-old boy following a carjacking incident.

On March 1, 2024, Akron police officers responded to an Amber Alert issued shortly after 3 p.m. regarding a stolen pickup truck with a sleeping child inside. The alert triggered an immediate and coordinated response from the Akron Police Department. Utilizing a license plate reader, Officer Semchee located the truck in Akron’s Kenmore neighborhood and rescued the two-year-old boy. Officers on the scene comforted the boy, providing him with water, food, and toys while ensuring his safety and promising to reunite him with his parents. The suspect was found and apprehended shortly after the boy was rescued.

“These officers are heroes, and their actions highlight the countless acts of valor which often go unnoticed and without the recognition or fanfare such acts deserve,” said William Alexander, CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. “We are humbled and proud to honor Officer Semchee as our Officer of the Month for March 2024.”

The Officer of the Month Award Program is sponsored by the Police Unity Tour and recognizes federal, state, and local officers who distinguish themselves through exemplary law enforcement service and devotion to duty.
