A woman accused of shooting a man outside the Bellaire Police Department on Friday texted his companions to make sure they were "out of harm's way" before firing multiple shots into his head and body, according to police.
Chioma Agurd, 39, was arrested Friday in Alabama, where police said she drove her Mercedes SUV to after the 2:30 a.m. shooting.
Agurd was charged with aggravated assault against a public servant and aggravated assault of a family member, according to court records. She was still awaiting transfer back to Houston from Autauga County, where she was arrested.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the victim of the shooting was Agurd's boyfriend of five months.
The shooting happened at the end of a 5-mile rolling disturbance between Agurd's SUV and a Ford F-150 truck. The disturbance apparently started at the Gold Diggers Cabaret, an adult entertainment club in southwest Houston.
There were five people in the truck at the beginning of the chase, police said. After it began, one of the people called the Bellaire Police Department, and said the SUV was limiting their movement and pulling in front of them, and that they believed the driver was armed with a pistol.
During that call, a police dispatcher heard gunfire and got disconnected, according to the affidavit.
Soon after, the truck arrived at the Bellaire Police Station and pulled into a parking spot in from of the building. The Mercedes blocked the truck, and its driver got out and confronted a person in the front passenger seat of the truck, according to the affidavit.
As one of the passengers in the truck walked up to the police station, its driver backed up and drove to a different spot. There, two women got out of the truck and walked toward the police station, leaving the truck's driver and the ex-boyfriend alone.
It was about then when a Bellaire Police Department officer arrived with his emergency lights on. The officer saw the Mercedes pull back up to the truck and shoot into its passenger-side door.
The officer stopped his car near the two vehicles, only for his unit to be bit by the truck as it "jolted forward" and the Mercedes as it backed up. The officer took cover behind his car and began firing his gun at the Mercedes driver, according to the affidavit. The officer was not injured.
The Mercedes managed to drive off, while one of the women pulled the ex-boyfriend out of the truck.
The man was shot in the arm, stomach and face, according to the affidavit. Despite his wounds, he was able to give a statement to police, identifying Agurd as a suspect, according to the affidavit.
The passengers from the truck also identified Agurd, and showed investigators messages that the woman had sent over Instagram in the moments before the shooting. In one of the them, Agurd said she wanted to make sure the women passengers were out of harm's way, according to the affidavit.
"People need to stop playing with certain people because a lot of people not playing," Agurd wrote. "I'm just glad you ladies safe. I'm sorry."
Agurd was arrested about 12 hours after the shooting, after leading police on a chase on an Alabama highway, which ended with a traffic-stopping standoff after police using spike strips to disable the vehicle.
Agurd was not yet in Harris County as of Monday morning. She didn't have a listed defense attorney.
