Automated Identity Protection Addresses Key Obstacle in Police Departments' Adoption of Body Worn Video

SEATTLE, Oct. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- VIEVU, an industry leader in body worn video ("BWV") and data management solutions today announced the introduction of its Automated Video Redaction ("AVR") technology, a highly advanced redaction tool built to automatically blur faces and objects, without user involvement, recorded on body worn cameras in order to protect the privacy and identity of victims, innocent bystanders, minors and undercover police officers. VIEVU's offering of AVR addresses a critical need of police departments, which have delayed their adoption of BWV due to the absence of available redaction technology.

AVR's technology is optimized for body worn or dashboard camera footage, which faces unique challenges due to movement, poor lighting, and low resolution. The VIEVU AVR system employs an advanced algorithm which automatically tracks faces and identifiers, allowing them to be easily blurred and reduces the time it takes to redact a video by over 10x. Most departments qualify for access to the VIEVU AVR system when they sign up for the VIEVU Solution Cloud Hosted Evidence system built on Microsoft Azure Government.

"We are proud to introduce the VIEVU AVR technology to be used with our best-in-class video system, which provides transparency and protection to police officers and communities around the world," said Steve Ward, President of VIEVU. "Police departments, which must be responsive to Freedom of Information Act requests, looking to adopt body worn cameras face a substantial challenge in protecting identities through footage redaction. The cutting-edge AVR system offered by VIEVU will lessen the burden on police departments and simplify the redaction process, allowing for increased adoption of body worn cameras around the world."

Scott O'Brien, President of The Safariland Group, commented, "AVR complements VIEVU's already outstanding technology platform offering. This system will transform a formerly time-intensive task restricted to video specialists into an automated function, which department officers and security professionals can perform themselves, in minutes, driving enormous time and cost savings for departments around the world."

VIEVU's AVR technology was developed in partnership with Suspect Technologies, Inc. VIEVU will debut and demonstrate its AVR technology at the IACP Annual Conference and Exposition in Chicago on October 24-27, 2015.
