A Town and Country police officer was just minutes from the scene of a fiery wreck late last month and his quick actions helped save the driver's life, according to The Town and Country-Manchester Patch.
The entire rescue was captured on dash cam video.
Corporal Chris Moore was dispatched to the call of a reported crash on Mason Road at approximately 8:40 p.m.
He was the first officer on the scene and was able to pull out the driver on his own.
A passerby who called in the crash was able to detach the victim's seat belt, but couldn't remove him from the wreckage because his right leg and foot were pinned into the dashboard, Moore told the website.
"I gave him a tug, and he didn’t come out. And I’m thinking 'Well, he's got to come out,' because I could actually see the fire starting to develop over the dashboard and into the car," he said. "So I gave him another pull, and to my amazement, he popped out."
After freeing the driver, others assisted him in pulling him to safety and within a minute the passenger area of the car was fully engulfed in flames.
"Anybody in that sort of position . . . you don't even think about yourself. You just react," Moore said. "He was coming out of that car one way or another, with or without his leg. But I wasn't going to sit there and watch him perish in a fire."
